My Favorite Troop 20 Newspaper Clipping

Reminiscing    No Comments    , , , , ,

This is my favorite newspaper clipping of Troop 20.  It didn’t appear in the regular newspaper but instead in the 1988 edition of Trefoil Trails, the parent newsletter of the Northeast Georgia Council.  (I know all of this because it’s on the other side of the clipping, not because I have an awesome memory.  I do have an awesome memory, but not of facts like the name of the Northeast Georgia Council’s parent newsletter.

Our Cabana Newspaper Clipping

Now as you’ll notice in the picture, everybody is facing the camera except for Caroline, who is waving very excitedly to someone off-camera.  If I had the original picture and not this blurry newspaper photo, you could see how very excited she is waving at said person.  This picture was taken right before we boarded the buses to head to the airport and to go home.  It was a very sad day for me.

Right at the last second, someone yelled out, “BYE CAROLINE!!!” and Caroline yelled back, “GOODBYE!!!” and waved (very excitedly I might add).  Unfortunately, she did it right as the camera clicked.

When we got the picture back, I remember Mrs. Vickers being livid at Caroline because that was the only picture of our whole troop that we had taken together, and therefore, the only one we could submit to Trefoil Trails.  Mrs. Vickers may have been angry, but I laughed hysterically with tears rolling down my cheeks.  I don’t think Caroline very much cared for that.  If I haven’t mentioned this before, Caroline is Mrs. Vickers’ oldest daughter, with the younger one being Marla.  Part of the reason why it’s so funny to me is that if you look back through the rest of our troop clippings or photos, Caroline always strikes the perfect smile and pose while the rest of us are either laughing or trying not to look ill (more clippings to come!). FWIW, this picture still cracks me up to this very day.

I probably can’t laugh too much, because I may or may not have almost missed our bus because I was saying goodbye to all of my Our Cabaña friends. 🙁
