You So Cray-Cray!!

Random Things That Don't Fit Anywhere Else Kinda Like Me    No Comments    , ,

Boring? Think again!
Boring? Think again!

Enough of the serious stuff like white papers and GSUSA!  I’ll get back to them later.  Let’s have some fun in the meantime.

Tonight I was cleaning up some of my old documents and came across one that had a list of J-Low quotes.  Here’s my favorite one considering how we all struggle with trying to get volunteers:

When I returned to the States and wanted to start the Girl Scouts, I knew I needed some help. The first woman I approached tried to tell me she wasn’t interested. I pretended that my deafness prevented me from hearing her refusals. And told her, “Then that’s settled. I’ve told my girls you will take the meeting next Thursday.” I never heard a word of argument from her again!

Here’s the file that I scanned in!  JGL Quotes

They’d probably be great to share at a JGL Birthday/Halloween party.   I also came across two JGL games and scanned those in as well:  Girl Scouts – 2 JGL Games

It’s funny – whenever girls (or anybody, really) see the pictures of Daisy in her uniform, they usually get the impression that she was very proper and serious and probably a stick in the mud.  But anybody who’s familiar with her knows that’s not the case!  Take for example:

  1. j-low-parrot-memeShe owned an African Gray parrot named “Polly Poons.”*  I’ve never met a boring parrot owner (if you have, don’t tell me).  Especially one that named her parrot Polly Poons.  I wonder what she taught the parrot to say.  I bet if ole Polly Poons was around, it could recite the whole GS Law better than I could.  I still stumble over parts of it even after all of these years and kind of murmur out certain lines as if I know them by heart.  Here’s a funny story about PP.  Addendum 12/29/2015:  She also owned a South American macaw named “Blue Bird.”  That’s probably him in the picture to the right.
  2. She decorated her hat with parsley and carrots.  Always the fashionista!  Plus, you never know when you might need to feed a guinea pig.
  3. Did you know she was a cartoonist?  I knew she could draw, but I didn’t know about her women’s suffrage comic.  You learn something new every day!  Hey, I know another cartoonist that happens to be a Girl Scout too…. ::looks around::
  4. She stood on her head during a National Convention to show off the new Girl Scout shoes.  I’d like to have seen the looks on everybody’s face.  There was probably that one uptight woman in the room that probably gasped or fainted or whatever, but I’m sure Daisy just rolled her eyes at her.  😉
  5. She encouraged Girl Scouts to not just do the typical woman stuff like sewing and housekeeping but also non-feminine things like camping and basketball.  That sure isn’t prim and proper, and I bet she took some heat for it.  You know she had to have shot some hoops too.  I wonder if she hung on the rim after a slam dunk.

Daisy, you so cray-cray!!

*Addendum 10/31/17:  Here is most likely a picture of J-Low & Polly Poons.  I tee hee everytime I say that name.  Polly Poons.
