Tic Tac Toe and Doodles
The other day, I was going through some boxes of my stuff up in the attic and came across the notebook I took with me on our Trip Out West™. So as a follow-up to my “Kids These Days” post, I just wanted to post some examples of what you do when you’re stuck in a van (not down by the river) for eight or nine hours a day before the days of portable DVDs, cellphones, and tablets:
The License Plate Game:
Addendum: I just noticed something weird about this list – Wyoming’s not on it. We stayed a week, so you’d think it would be on there. I must have lost interest or something.
Tic Tac Toe:
Looking back at these pages upon pages of Tic Tac Toe and doodles kind of made me a little unsettled:
As a side note, I believe Beth C/T’s nerves began to fray (I mean, wouldn’t yours after being the sole driver of said van filled with many 13 and 14 year old girls day after day?), when she first tried the “Who Can Be Quiet the Longest?” game. Everybody went along with it except for me, who pointed out that she just wanted us to be quiet. (I was the token obnoxious one if you haven’t guessed.) Everybody started talking again.
Later on, Beth C/T tried to teach us sign language. Again, I pointed out that she was doing that so we would stop talking so much. Well that fell through too. Now that I’m a leader and a parent, I am truly sorry for being that obnoxious kid. But not all of the time. There were a few instances when it was called for.
Now that I think about it, I’m very grateful that Beth C/T didn’t go all this on us:
