Old School Sleeping Bag

Random Things That Don't Fit Anywhere Else Kinda Like Me    No Comments    , , , , ,

Get In The Bag Do they make lightweight sleeping bags these days that you don’t have to have relations with in order to get it back into the bag?  I’m trying to decide if I should get a new one for my birthday.

I have an old school sleeping bag that I’ve owned for about 30 years.  It’s warm and toasty on those cool nights, except it’s too toasty for those not-so-cool nights.  Plus, the zipper on the side comes apart too easily, so halfway through the night, my leg is hanging out of it.  Or, it’s unzipped itself and half of it is on the floor, leaving my back exposed to the creepy crawlies of the night.

It’s been a lot of places though.  It went with me on the Trip Out West™ (in fact, I think my parents bought it FOR the trip) plus who knows how many other places.   But it was a you-know-what trying to strap it onto a backpacking pack.  If I ever go backpacking again, I don’t want to take it.  It’s pretty heavy Little Help Pleasetoo.  Does anyone want to go backpacking with me? 🙂   I figure if I can take the troop camping a few times and no one gets eaten, then I’m doing OK.  Maybe we’ll step up to backpacking one of these days.  I’m hoping to take our troop when they are around 13 years old, and I would like to get a practice run(s) before that.

I have a couple of backpacking stories from the Trip Out West™ that I will share another time.  One of them is a “it’s not funny now, but it will be later” memory.  Kind of.  Well, it still might have a smidge of “not so funny.”  I guess it depends on who you talk to.

Boy, this was a pretty rambling and random post.  Welcome to my brain.
