National Center West Map, Patch, and Cartoon
A few months ago, fellow Troop 20 member Jenny and I reconnected and went through a lot of her scrapbook stuff from our time together. I took some of it back home in order to document it. She even saved permission slips!
First is a copy of the smaller National Center West map that each of us received when we got there. Of course I lost mine, but Jenny to the rescue! A few years ago, I was able to track down a copy of the larger and more detailed topo map on ebay and pieced it together in one graphic but I was hoping to find a copy of the smaller map too.
I also scanned it in as a PDF if you’d like to download it: Map of NCW
She also had a NCW patch in her stash. I opted for the pin at the time, so this is a very special addition to my patch collection. Since it was the 75th Anniversary of Girl Scouts in 1987, it featured a special logo that was used nationwide and a rocker added for NCW:
And last but not least is something that wasn’t from Jenny’s scrapbook, but from my pile of papers saved from one of my mother’s cleaning purges. It’s a cartoon about backpacking that I drew after the trip. I thought it was especially appropriate considering we are taking our Cadettes backpacking in June, and I haven’t been done this since my time at NCW. I’m doing some training this weekend. Because I now have 31 years under my belt, not to mention a little more weight, so I’m gonna need it.
Wish me and my shoulders luck! And my legs, and my arms, and my neck, and my knees, etc.
