The NCS Workbook and Pies
The 2020 National Council Session Workbook has been released! You can download it here: 55th NCS Delegate Workbook
I started to write about its release earlier and tried to make it humorous, but I didn’t get very far. At first I wasn’t sure why, but I think it’s because I felt like this browsing through it:
I know I’m beating a dead horse at this point, but I still have qualms about having the NCS virtually. Not that I expect my parliamentary procedure questions to be personally answered (especially since I’m not a National Delegate), but they still leave me with some uneasy feelings about how we’re going to pull this off successfully. I still question the legality of it. I’d personally feel a lot better if we just postponed it, but nobody asked me. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but I had a dream a few weeks ago that I was watching the NCS online, and during the debate for one of the proposals, things melted down, and it became very obvious it wasn’t working. They ended up calling it off.
Speaking of dreams, last night I had one in which our council ran some sessions where National Delegates could discuss NCS business with our membership to get our take. However, they asked us what kind of pie we wanted. I picked blueberry. At some point later on in the dream, I ate the blueberry pie, and it was warm and yummy and had whipped cream on top. Interpret that as you may. Maybe it’s the Girl Scout Universe telling me that the NCS will turn out just fine. Or I was hungry and wanted pie.
As for the Workbook itself, it doesn’t look like anything has changed proposal-wise except for the order. I’ve made changes to reflect this in my two blog posts about Proposals 2 through 4 which deal with the authority over membership dues: The 2020 NCS: Proposals 2 through 4 – I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) and A Rabbit Hole, a NCS Workbook, and a Membership Dues Timeline Rebuttal.
I hope The Powers That Be don’t take everybody’s concerns as a challenge just for pride’s sake. If it becomes obvious that there’s not a way to do it fairly and fully, then let’s do the right thing and postpone it to a later date. And serve blueberry pie.
Amy, it wasn’t a dream:) Please register and let’s have some good discussion!
National Proposal Meetings
We are all disappointed by the cancelation of the in-person 55th National Council Session and G.I.R.L. planned for October in Orlando.
As you recall the National Board held a special meeting in April and voted to hold a one-time virtual session for our 55th National Council session in October. This will enable the business of Girl Scouting to continue in a timely manner and honor the significant business that was brought to the national council, including four proposals initiated by councils and recommended to the board, as well as the business of electing the new board.
Our members are key to ensuring the movement moves forward in an informed manner. Delegates will be receiving instruction in late August on participation, but it is important that everyone has their say on national proposals.
Please find time to register and join us for one of the following virtual sessions to examine and discuss the national proposals in advance of the delegate vote.

I have registered and I can’t wait for the pie!
Register? I am an alternate. I did not know we needed to register. Oops! Better go find the links and take care of that. I want some blueberry pie!
Gayle – Lora is referring to our council’s sessions with our National Delegates to discuss the proposals with our council’s membership.
Ah! Thank you, Amy!
Help! Lora, your links are not hot. I tried Google and the Delegate website, but all I can find is the money will be refunded that was paid for the in person conference. Where do I register?
