GSUSA Executive Turnover

National Operations    5 Comments    ,

In a little over a year, these people left the GSUSA Executive Team (in no particular order):

Sylvia Acevedo
National CEO

Andrea Bastiani Archibald
Chief Girl and Family Engagement Officer

Amy Berkowitz
Chief Information Officer

Anthony Doye
Chief Operating/Strategy Officer

Lynn Godfrey
Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Lynelle McKay
Chief Customer Officer

Annette Freytag
Chief of Staff

Perhaps this might shed some light on why there are issues.  Needless to say, we can’t afford to screw up yet another National CEO hire.

And here’s a recipe for apple turnovers!

Original recipe yields 8 servings

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 Granny Smith apples – peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 (17.25 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1 – Combine the lemon and 4 cups water in a large bowl. Place the sliced apples in the water to keep them from browning.

Step 2 – Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain water from apples, and place them into the hot skillet. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes. Add brown sugar, and cinnamon, and cook, stirring, for 2 more minutes. Stir together cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Pour into the skillet, and mix well. Cook for another minute, or until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat to cool slightly.

Step 3 – Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Step 4 – Unfold puff pastry sheets, and repair any cracks by pressing them back together. Trim each sheet into a square. Then cut each larger square into 4 smaller squares. Spoon apples onto the center of each squares. Fold over from corner to corner into a triangle shape, and press edges together to seal. Place turnovers on a baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.

Step 5 – Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until turnovers are puffed and lightly browned. Cool completely before glazing.

Step 6  – To make the glaze, mix together the confectioners’ sugar, milk and vanilla in a small bowl. Adjust the thickness by adding more sugar or milk if necessary. Drizzle glaze over the cooled turnovers.

Do you know what (more or less anyway) the problems are? Before Sylvia it was obvious that the inmates were running the asylum, but these folks were putting a much better face on things…

Turnover this bad means the inmates were still running the asylum, but where was the National Board through all of this? Considering they approved a deficit budget pre-COVID and approving CircleAround by dropping millions into it, I question if they were some of the inmates. I guess they finally acted earlier this year by cutting Sylvia, but it remains to be seen if this new board can get the ship righted. Who is running things right now?

Lynelle’s departure must be recent. Her Linkedin page shows her still in the customer position as well as still the CEO of GSCTX. With all of these changes plus the pandemic, GSUSA will be challenged to remain viable.

Yep. Couple it with their recent decision-making when it comes to money, and I’m really questioning what is going on. Whoever the new National CEO will be has a huge rebuilding job ahead of them. HUGE. Like wow HUGE. But maybe going bankrupt is what we need to restructure things the way they should be.

Thanks for the recipe. They look yummy! I can’t get past the title of Chief Girl. Yes, I know it’s Girl and Family, but it’s really a badly worded title! CGFEO isn’t a very good abbreviation, either. I don’t think I would stay in that position. Maybe I’ll do that at my troop meetings. Today, the Chief Girl is… While I’m also concerned about the turnover, perhaps it’s the 2020 jitters. There is so much insanity that people are trying to handle it in out-of-character ways. New blood means a new CEO book, obviously, and lots of new ideas. I’m just going to focus on Chief Girl (huh?) and pretend they aren’t rats jumping a sinking ship.
