Almost OFFICIAL Scarf
A few months ago, many OFFICIAL scarves went on sale at the online GSUSA shop, including the “It’s How Much!?!” OFFICIAL scarf (it’s now down to $60 if you’re interested). I wondered if this meant any new ones were headed our way. The lovely Ann Robertson sent me a message last week and said she saw a new one in a council shop. So I pulled up the GSUSA store website, and lo and behold:
OMG! A NEW OFFICIAL SCARF! But wait…
It’s called “Girl Scout Legacy Scarf.” No OFFICIAL in the title. But – what is this in the description?
” Layer with a necklace, tie it around your purse strap, or use a woggle to fashion it into a classic neckerchief.”
No wonder they didn’t categorize it as an OFFICIAL scarf. It is BLASPHEMY to wear an OFFICIAL scarf anywhere else other than the neck! A purse strap??
Check out this offender, second from the right:
I shared this picture a few years ago in a Facebook group. Someone identified her as a staff member at some council and said she is no longer with Girl Scouts. No doubt shown the door after using the ubiquitous Polka Dot OFFICIAL scarf as a belt.
And what the heck is a “woggle?” I had to look that one up because it was new to me. Apparently it’s “used to fasten Girl Scout neckerchiefs for generations.” You can get one online for $6.
So I am torn. I want to add the Legacy Scarf to The OFFICIAL Scarf Showcase!, but it’s now been cast as less than due to its casual description. If the Legacy Scarf could speak, it would say this:
Is there going to be another true OFFICIAL scarf anytime soon? We’ll have to continue to wait and find out.
I’m dual-hatted, also a BSA member, and we’ve used the word woggle for decades. Really surprised to see it as a GSUSA thing. Haven’t we always just said “scarf slide”?
