Two New OFFICIAL Scarves and a Surprise!
A few months, a couple of OFFICIAL scarves were put on sale on the GSUSA online shop which means they’re being retired. You can count on all OFFICIAL scarves being eventually put out to pasture, so if you see one you like, don’t wait to get it (unless it’s $150 and you want to wait it out for the inevitable mark down). But OFFICIAL scarf retirements mean that new ones will arrive! And arrive they did!
First up is the Dot OFFICIAL Scarf, not to be confused with the ever classic Polka Dot OFFICIAL Scarf (still my favorite). Since they’re so similar in names, I’m renaming it to Half Dot OFFICIAL Scarf since really, it’s not completely covered in dots. It can be yours for $24! In addition to these two adult OFFICIAL scarves being released, girls are also getting updated OFFICIAL scarves. Half Dot OFFICIAL Scarf has the same sort of design as theirs but in different colors:
Next up is… I’m not really sure. GSUSA says it’s OFFICIAL but umm…. it doesn’t really feature anything Girl Scouts and the colors don’t match either. They call it the Pleated Color Block OFFICIAL Scarf but I’m going to rename it the Tetris OFFICIAL Scarf. It comes in at $32. The description says, “Pair it with a trefoil scarf slide at an official Girl Scout event or wear it as an accent piece with your favorite evening dress.” I don’t have evening dresses because I’m not fancy like that, but I digress. The Tetris OFFICIAL scarf is versatile, so I guess it has that going for it.
And now, the SURPRISE! Normally I only feature OFFICIAL scarves and not other accessories on this blog, but this is such a momentous occasion that I couldn’t resist. But first, a brief story. One day I was perusing through the amazing GS Catalog website and came across this blue beret from 1984:
I thought, “I must have this!” and planned on rocking it at an Annual Meeting if I ever got my hands on one. But then I wasn’t sure if I could do that since you’re not supposed to mix and match from the different eras of Girl Scout fashion. But I wanted it anyway if only to show it off. I’ve been waiting for one to come up on eBay with no luck.
And then, this popped up in the online shop:
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?? An OFFICIAL beret?? Ooh la la! I will be getting this with my birthday money. Should I wear it straight on my head? Or off to the side as if I’m about to paint a famous masterpiece? Très chic!
I will be updating the OFFICIAL Scarf Showcase! soon with the new entries. If you’re wondering, there is no OFFICIAL Beret Showcase. Je suis triste.
Our archives lady says the 80s berets are incredibly rare and hard to find. We have one in our Council collection. I’ve been allowed to wear it to Annual Meeting (with the dark green Bill Blass shirt dress of the same era) and it was one of the biggest honors of my GS career.
The Tetris scarf is so ugly. I wish I hadn’t given away my old dot scarf.
