I Finally Made It!
Unless you’re a new reader to GSWAC (Not a Council), you’re probably aware that I have a long history with the Farthest North Council headquartered in Fairbanks, Alaska starting when I first stumbled across their website back in 2015. A few years later, I fell down a very deep rabbit hole while covering their lawsuit versus GSUSA. And then this happened recently:
Surprise!
I led a very impromptu Facebook Live tour of the FN building while I was there. Excuse my very Southern exclamation of seeing so much snow all in one place. I grew up and still live in the South, and snow has always been a rarity. And when it does fall, it’s a momentous occasion that involves excitement, panic, and runs on grocery stores for milk and bread.
I won’t share all of my pictures from my trip to Fairbanks here, but I do want to show off my pictures of the Northern Lights. When I was little, I read about the Northern Lights and was fascinated by them. It was always my dream to experience them. My dream came true while I was in Fairbanks! I realize these pictures aren’t very good and don’t do it justice by any means, but I’m still proud of them. By the way, it was -22º at the time. Yep.
If you want to see more pictures, head on over to my GS Volunteer Facebook profile and scroll down! Send me a friend request while you’re at it if you haven’t already!
Ha, ha, ha. Love it! I have always lived in the North, including 5 years in Wisconsin, so I was laughing when you were exclaiming at the snow. They have a decent sized building.
Is this the trip you just got back from? Amazing!!
Love this! Yay for you for getting to make the trip!
Very brave of you to make this trip in winter!
