OFFICIAL Scarfapalooza!

Random Things That Don't Fit Anywhere Else Kinda Like Me    2 Comments    , , , ,

It’s been quite some time since I’ve written about OFFICIAL scarves on this blog. Way too long. In fact, it’s been a year and a half. Can you believe it? Quite a drought. I’ve been busy with some things like becoming a credentialed parliamentarian and transitioning to a new phase in my GS life, but I was hit by inspiration while making OFFICIAL scarf SWAPs for the 2026 Convention and thought I’d check in with the GSUSA online shop to see what’s being offered in the way of OFFICIAL scarfdom. And holy OFFICIAL scarves, Batman! There are quite a few I’ve missed.

Now I’d like to note that it seems as if GSUSA has dropped the word “OFFICIAL” from all scarves at this time, so I don’t know if they OFFICIALLY count or not. But I think they should join the cast of characters because they can be worn as part of the OFFICIAL adult uniform, so let’s get to it. I’m adding OFFICIAL to the titles just because, well, that’s what I do!

First up is the OFFICIAL Patch scarf. This one doesn’t really jump out at me but it incorporates the random shapes of GSUSA’s most recent branding which will probably change here in the next little bit. I think I’ve been through something like four rebrandings in my 16 years of volunteering for Girl Scouts, so what’s a few more? Anyway, I’d like to point out that the GSUSA listing also features someone modeling the OFFICIAL Patch scarf around her waist. Umm, I don’t think so. Ignore that fashion trend. Anyway, the OFFICIAL Patch scarf comes in at $41 for a 36″x 36″ square shape. I’m not a big fan of the square ones, but I’ve found they do fine with a slide.

Next is an OFFICIAL scarf that came out some time ago but I conveniently skipped it because I didn’t want to make a comment and offend everyone. But let’s live dangerously with the OFFICIAL Legacy Archive Map scarf. This design is based off a map of the regions of Girl Scouts back in the days of Girl Scout Inc., and the description states that it’s a reproduction of a scarf from the late 1930s. I didn’t see it in the catalogs, so I tracked down a similar map in the 1947 handbook and noticed quite a few things were left off that wouldn’t be politically correct now in some eyes. So it’s not a true reproduction. Whether GSUSA should have featured them or not is a debate for another time. But for some reason, they also left off the name for the Kenowva Region. Maybe someone up in NYC thought it was an offensive Native American reference, but actually it’s a combination of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia (KENtuckyOhioWestVirginiA). Just pointing that out. You can purchase this 23” x 23” square scarf for $41.

Next up is another OFFICIAL scarf related to the Gold Award. There’s already one that’s been around since 2019 literally called the “Official Gold Award Scarf” on the GSUSA store, but now there’s a new entry named simply “Gold Award Scarf.” It looks very different than the previous one and reminds me of the 1960s. No tie dye but the lettering and randomness of the daisy petals looks like something you’d see on a Woodstock concert poster. Perhaps I should call this one the OFFICIAL Summer of Love Gold Award Scarf. It measures in at 23” x 23” and you can purchase it for $39.

By the way, if you do a search for “scarf” on the online store, other scarves that resemble winter scarves will show up such as this one. I will not be highlighting those as they aren’t in the same scheme as the OFFICIAL scarf and aren’t considered part of the uniform.

We’re not done yet! GSUSA decided to go way out with this next one and feature an OFFICIAL scarf in a ruby color based on the same design from a 2021 OFFICIAL scarf design that’s still available. I’m not sure if the ruby color is supposed to be a throwback to the 1990s or GSUSA is a fan of Dorothy, but it doesn’t really fit in with the other OFFICIAL scarves that usually include some sort of green or blue colors.  But I guess someone wanted to be different. The OFFICIAL Ruby Legacy Scarf is 12″ x 60″ and can be all yours for the cost of $43!

Get ready for the behemoth of OFFICIAL scarves and OFFICIALLY the largest OFFICIAL scarf ON RECORD! It comes in at 72″ x 27″ and it’s yours for $39! Wow! This OFFICIAL Legacy Profile scarf featuring the three faces profile logo is apparently very versatile. So versatile, in fact, that the model is wearing it in a way I’ve never seen featured by any scarf, OFFICIAL or not, as a sort of Peruvian poncho. I normally don’t feature models in the recent reviews of OFFICIAL scarves, but I have to make an exception in this case:

Llamas are not included with the OFFICIAL Legacy Profile scarf.

Last but not least is part of the collection featuring the design on the J-Low quarter. In case you weren’t aware, the US Mint released a quarter earlier this year with our beloved Daisy! GSUSA offers a number of collectible items on the online shop celebrating this honor, and an OFFICIAL scarf is one of them! However, I don’t think you can see the design very well if you wear it as intended, so … yeah. The OFFICIAL J-Low Quarter scarf measures in at 23” x 23” and is offered for $41.

Assuming GSUSA releases more OFFICIAL scarves, I promise not to go as long between updates. Who knows? There might be a new OFFICIAL scarf for the 2026 Convention featuring a DC design! Or maybe one relating to membership dues, since we can never seem to get away from that topic! The possibilities are endless!

These OFFICIAL scarves will eventually be added to the OFFICIAL Scarf Showcase!
