KARAT Kards Reimagined!

Many moons ago, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council released something called KARAT Kards.   What are KARAT Kards, you ask?  KARAT stands for:

Keep
Adults
Returning
All the
Time!

Here’s an explanation from one of the Kards:

This tool is designed for leaders to collect the 4×6 “kards” and put them in a troop resource box for girls and adults to use for program ideas. Subjects will range from songs, games, service projects, recognitions, to ceremonies, skits, recipes, openings and closings.  How do you get them? Attend your service unit meetings!

I don’t remember how I came across these cards, but they are wonderful.  Someone spent a lot of time collecting and putting these things together.  But GSSJC recently revamped their Volunteer Resource website, and they disappeared!  Fortunately, I had downloaded a local copy of all of them before they moved to 404 Not Found Land and saved them in what I call my Dropbox of GS Resource Goodness.

Fast forward to a few months ago.  Someone I know got ahold of the original KARAT Kards from my Dropbox and redesigned them for easier printing.  Here are her words from her email to me:

Imagine a world where the koolness of KARAT Kards was actually user-friendly.  It would be one where they could be printed without killing a forest.  It would be one where the multi-card activities would properly print front/back so that the “Card 1 of 2” printed on the front and “Card 2 of 2” printed on the back of the very same card.  It would be one where the cards were organized by topic to make it easy to print, sort, and file.

Well, my friend, that day is here.

I’m a bit on the OCD side, and I’m also cheap and a stickler for efficiency, so although the concept of the KARAT Kards is FABULOUS, and I LOVE them, I simply wasn’t going to try to print them out in their current form.  So, I’ve re-done them.  All bazillion of them.

They are attached here and can be printed duplex (or not).  If they are printed duplex, then the multi-card activities will print together.  I created separate documents for the various types of cards that were available for easy sorting and finding.  Some cards are duplicated in the various categories on purpose (i.e. Kim’s Game cards are found in both “Activities & Games” and “Traditions”).  I didn’t include any where the cards referenced activities from specific years in the past or ones where the website links no longer work.  I left them in Word, but they could (of course) be converted to PDF if necessary.  Because the cards are separated by topic, there are going to be blank cards left at the end, but that was a small price to pay (in my mind, at least) for the improvement in function.

Basically, you print these documents on card stock and either cut the cards to size or glue them on a 4 x 6″ index card, and then you can store them in an index card box.  Stick in some dividers and BOOM!  Tons of ideas for troop meetings and then some!

I converted her Word docs to PDF format, and you can download them here:  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/40dq72y7jjr603k/AACxSJXCuuMcKd5tnY0jLdq3a?dl=0

Some of the files have a blank page.  That was a problem on my end due to the outdated version of Word I am using, but it shouldn’t affect how the pages print.  If you’d like to download all of her original Word files, here’s a zip file:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/3lgncjqdc0njtck/KARAT%20Cards%20Reimagined.zip?dl=0

Enjoy!

I was looking all over the internet and for these — I had found them before and thought they were fantastic! Disappointed they were lost from San Jacinto site. THANK YOU for saving them and our angel who converted them!
