GSUSA Launches CircleMeow™ – Powered By Girl Scouts!

On the heels of its latest endeavor CircleAround™, Girl Scouts of the USA announced today the launch of CircleMeow™, a media brand and online destination targeted to meet the needs of today’s cat owners.  CircleMeow™ is a operated by GS Mew-dia, a wholly owned subsidiary spun off by GSUSA just the other day.

CircleMeow™ will deliver specific messages of laughter, playfulness, and cuteness by covering inspirational and humorous situations that cat owners find themselves in.  Content will be in the form of cat memes in individual and gallery format from multiple perspectives.  The brand itself is rooted in Girl Scouts values, which studies have shown are also the everyday values of cat owners today.  Revenue will be generated through cat-related partners who will advertise on the site.  That money in turn will be distributed to GSUSA so it can further its mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place, in addition to taking over the world.  GS Mew-dia is in the process of bringing a new cat litter featuring the scents of beloved Girl Scout cookie flavors to consumers sometime in January – just in time for cookie season!

Here’s a small sample of what you’ll find on CircleMeow™:

Inspirational messages for both cat owners and non-owners alike!
CircleMeow™ memes are sure to be shared on millions of Facebook timelines!

When asked if this new venture flies in the face of the GSUSA Congressional Charter which states one of the purposes of the organization is “to promote the qualities of truth, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness, courtesy, purity, kindness, obedience, cheerfulness, thriftiness, and kindred virtues among girls,” a GSUSA representative answered, “But this will bring in money.  Um – I mean… we feel like this will speak to cat owners everywhere, like our Girl Scouts, because our research has shown that girls who become leaders like cute and funny pictures of cats.”

After questioned if this was just another reiteration of the website I Can Has Cheezburger?, the GSUSA representative stared off into space.  Moments later, she blinked a couple of times.  “This is different,” she said.  “I Can Has Cheezburger? doesn’t have its own for-profit LLC and board of directors.”  I Can Has Cheezburger? declined to comment.

The GSUSA representative continued, “We’re sure that this will bring in income that GSUSA needs to continue as the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.  If not, we’ll just create another LLC and try for dog owners.”

I’m not even clear how a “media brand” makes money. This sounds a bit like the sort of thing we warn girls against in some of the media savvy badges.

An online destination targeted to meet the needs of today’s women… I’m more interested in what GSUSA is doing to keep the interests of today’s female teenagers. Maybe this for profit entity can guide a revamp of the older girl program so badges are more meaningful and journeys are more age appropriate. The Seniors and especially Ambassadors are too mature and sophisticated for the current program – if they drop GS in HS does the money earning power at GS believe they would consider something owed by GS to be valuable to them as women??

I do think circle meow TM will get their attention.

GSUSA at least pays lip service to being nonpartisan; will CircleAround do the same? Because if it begins to show any philosophical or political leanings, that will further push people to other organizations. We already have issues in some conservative circles related to false/exaggerated claims going back roughly ten years!
