October to May 2017 Hours Tally

Experiences as a Leader    No Comments    , , , , , , ,

For the 2015-2016 year, I decided to tally up my hours to see if I was close on my estimation of 300 hours volunteered for Girl Scouts.  So I continued to track my hours for this past year – why not at this point and just compare and contrast them from year to year?  So here’s the tally for Oct 1st, 2016 to May 31st, 2017!  I’ll continue tracking them through Sept 30th to add them up for the full fiscal year.

As I did last year, I tracked them based on areas, and then for troop hours, I broke them down even further, as such:

  • Troop
    • Trips, Events, Cookie Booths
    • Paperwork and Planning
    • Meetings
  • Service Unit
  • Delegate
  • City Slickers (our service unit’s summer camp)
  • Other (Scout Sunday related and random meetings)

Keep in mind that these hours don’t include running errands for supplies or writing this blog.  Or talking on the phone.  So the total number of hours was:

352.54!

I’m not surprised that it was a lot less than last year at this time (407.46).  Last year I killed myself between multiple trips and Bronze Award related hours, while this year I had a co-leader for Cadettes which really helped with the prep work.  Additionally, we still haven’t gone on our Cadette trip yet or our end of year party as opposed to last year when we finished up the troop year in May.

Here’s the breakout:

And number of hours for it:

I’ve got more service unit hours this year, but a lot of that has to do with sorting through our inventory of retired badges, uniforms, and books and listing them for sale online and to our SU.  Surprisingly, I have more hours toward the delegate category compared to last year (a lot of strongly worded letters I suppose?).  And we’re done way ahead of time with City Slickers planning (yay!), so there are more hours in that area.

As I was writing this post, my oldest daughter walked by whistling “Auld Lang Syne.”  How appropriate!

Check back after September 30th for the final 2016-2017 year totals!
